John Pint, SVP of Licensing, spoke with IAM about Meta taking licenses with Access Advance’sVideo Distribution Patent Pool, HEVC Advance, and VVC Advance.

John says, “To their credit, they saw the way the winds were blowing when it came to licensing and streaming content in the four most modern video codecs, and opted to take a leadership role and become an early licensee.”

“Our hope is that it will have a bit of a snowball effect or an avalanche effect, demonstrating to potential licensees but also demonstrating to potential licensors that our pool represents the one that’s most likely to be successful in the industry in terms of attracting licensors and licensees of consequence.”
