Video Distribution Patent Pool

Overview

Access Advance has developed the Video Distribution Patent (“VDP”) Pool in response to industry demand for a comprehensive solution that balances the interests of all stakeholders while providing the flexibility today’s market requires.

One License, Four Codecs, Maximum Flexibility

Our innovative pool license covers standard essential patents (SEPs) for all four major video codecs currently used by video distribution providers: HEVC (H.265), VVC (H.266), VP9, and AV1.

Key Program Benefits

Benefits for Video Distribution Companies include flexibility to add, drop or switch codecs without license constraints or renegotiation, predictable costs with a single royalty rate regardless of which codecs you use or in what proportions, automatic coverage when you adopt a new VDP Pool codec, and simplified administration with just one license.

Flexible Sizing for Every Business Model

Royalty rates are determined by the size of the licensee’s streaming business using three criteria to ensure fair treatment across different business models: Average monthly active users, average monthly video subscribers, and semi-annual video streaming revenue.
